So, this is my first attempt at a blog. Yeah, I know I am behind in using the world of technology to my advantage. Many of you who call me on my cell phone can attest to that.
So here's the scoop, several times I have had conversations with many of my friends and aquaintences on how we should share receipes we've either come up with or have tried and liked and think our friends would like as well. I like to cook, I always have and I like to try new things, put a new twist on something or come up with my own ideas. Sometimes I am succesful, sometimes I am not. I also have my days that I don't want to cook at all or I don't want to fuss much but I still want to eat healthy.
I have always been what I would call a from scratch cook, meaning I like fresh, tasty. leaner and healthier choices. I have had many delightful dishes from many people out there that are AWESOME and think it's fun to share creations of food. Though I feel I have always leaned toward making healthier food choices I recently have upped that a notch or two, thus finally starting this blog is hopes that those of you out there that might read this will share your creations with me and maybe take a stab at some of mine. With that being said I can tell you I will also share recipes with you that are recipes that are tasty and fresh, but the healthier side of them will leans toward the choice of only fixing them once or twice a year :)
Last of all, I have some cooking tricks but you probably know more than me, so please share those as well. That also goes for ingredients, I still read recipes and say, "what the heck is that and where do I get it?" If anything I cook calls for that I will supply the information. Please do the same!
So here's my first stab at sharing a recipe that was simple and tasty. I am not much for hamburger but the ease of cooking a burger is nice on certain days. Today, being Sunday was one of those I don't want to fuss much but still eat something good days. So Turkey Burgers was the choice but this is how we ate them.
Turkey Burgers with a Flare
Grill or broil turkey burgers lightly flavored with sea salt and pepper, gives them a flavor I like. (Costco has great turkey burgers in their frozen meat section)
Just before the burgers are done I pop a whole wheat bun or cabbatta bun on the grill and lightly toast. At the same time I spread goat cheeses on the burgers. (Goat cheese at Costco is good too)
Top burgers with spinach, tomato. cucumber, avacado. (If I have them around I will plop on sprouts too, use any veggie you might like)
Mustard., ketchup, dijon mustard or BBQ sauce mixed with a little mayo all make tasty choices to round up the whole package. Healthier choices on the ketchup would be the organic and sugar free type and on mayo the type made with olive oil is a better choice, but hey use what you want but don't overdo it or it drowns the flavors. The flavors are great and it's a filling and tasy meal. Have a salad, beans or a quinoa salad on the side and it's a great combo! So that's it. More later!
